The Prague Centre for Public Policy (Centrum pro verejnou politiku—CPVP) and INstrategy— Institute for European and National Strategies, have teamed up to organize the eighth Institute On the Future of Europe: Lobbying in Brussels (ESI2008).

The European Summer Institute 2008 is a seven-day academic program designed to bring together 30 undergraduate and graduate students of various nationalities and academic backgrounds.

The program provides students with an exciting opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the current EU politics through exchange of ideas with academics, policy practitioners and fellow students from different cultural environments. The ESI2008 combines intensive academic courses with cultural, social and

recreational opportunities.

The Summer Institute will take place in Prague, July 2 -9 , 2008.
Early Bird application deadline is April 30, 2008. The final deadline is May 15, 2008

Visegrad Summer School, VII edition, July 6 –19, 2008

The aim of the Visegrad Summer School is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and to create an alternative learning environment for young people from Central and Eastern Europe. The program is an opportunity for the participants to get acquainted with and discuss current social and security, economic, political, and cultural issues. It is also an opportunity to learn about each other and start an international cooperation between the peoples and the countries.

A group of 45 students, graduates, PhD researchers, young journalists, and teachers from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine, Moldova, and other Central and East European countries deepen their knowledge and exchange ideas about the constantly changing political, social, and economic situation on the continent, form international friendships, and meet outstanding European experts.

The programme of the seventh edition of the Visegrad Summer School includes debates on: European and V4 identities, models of regional cooperation in Europe and democratic transition of East European countries. Euroatlantic relations, problems of environmental protection and global security will be also discussed. The historical and cultural context of Central Europe serves as an indicator for discussions on economics, politics, social issues as well as on mass media, art and culture.

Intellectuals, scientists, politicians, representatives of business and nongovernmental organisations, journalists, and artists conduct seminars and workshops, hold lectures, and lead debates.

Students are encouraged to present their country's culture, heritage and traditions which helps to increase the knowledge of other participants about different countries. They organize themselves into working groups in order to develop their own projects aimed at furthering collaboration between them and their countries. Study visits and social events enrich the program with unforgettable experiences and ensure memorable moments for the students. All the activities are designed to enhance an atmosphere of integration, dialogue and co-operation between participants from different European countries.

The Visegrad Summer School is one of the most respected forms of education and cooperation for young people in Central and Eastern Europe. As former editions have shown, independent, and innovative projects developed by students during the program prove the Visegrad Summer School to be a successful forum creating new platform of cooperation and enhanced dialogue between students, young researchers, and NGOs from V4+ countries. The CEU Summer University (SUN) program hosts high-level, research-oriented, interdisciplinary and innovative academic courses as well as workshops on policy issues for professional development in the social sciences and the humanities. The one- or two-week long courses involve distinguished international faculty (including CEU professors), and advanced doctoral students, junior or postdoctoral researchers, teachers, and professionals as participants.

We offer one-, two-, and three-week long courses for graduate students, junior faculty, researchers, and professionals in social sciences and humanities between June 9 and August 1, 2008.

Intensive Summer Language and Culture program in L'viv, Ukraine, June 10 –July 24, 2008

This program offers a unique opportunity for students to study intensive Ukrainian language and area studies (political transition, society, economics, culture, etc). During the six-week program, students will work with individual faculty on a research topic associate with their stateside field of concentration in addition to the regular language and area studies classes. The program also includes numerous teacher-accompanied excursions in and around L'viv and three excursions outside L'viv to Kyiv, the Carpathian mountains and Olesko.

Graduate students in area studies and advanced undergraduates with appropriate profiles are eligible. It is preferred students have at least two years of Russian or Ukrainian language proficiency, and the languages of instruction is Ukrainian. Students will receive nine hours of KU credit and the program is FLAS eligible. The program cost is approximately $3700 and includes tuition, all educational and administrative fees, full room, and board, group excursions, and field trips.

Intensive Summer Language and Culture program in Zadar, Croatia, May 25–July 6, 2008

This program offers graduate and undergraduate students the opportunity to study intermediate and advanced Croatian language as well as Croatian culture and history. The six-week program not only provides language and area studies courses, it also includes numerous teacher-accompanied excursions in and around Zadar.

A minimum of one year of Croatian language study is required, and the language of instruction is Croatian. Students will receive eight hours of KU credit and the program is FLAS eligible. The program cost is approximately $4150 and includes tuition, all educational and administrative fees, accommodations, group excursions, and field trips.

Intensive Summer Language and Culture Program in St. Petersburg, Russia, June 1–July 12, 2008

This program is designed to give intermediate-level students of Russian short term, highly intensive introduction to current Russian life and culture. Through a focus on language study and organized excursions to important cultural sights, students will maximize their chances to use their language skills, improve their fluency, and gain insight into the rhythm of Russian life. Participants take six weeks of classes at St. Petersburg State University with highly qualified, native-speaker instructors. Students must have two years or four semesters of college-level Russian or more, and the language of instructions is Russian. Students will receive eight hours of KU credit and is FLAS eligible. The program cost is approximately $3700 and includes tuition and fees, dormitory housing, and all excursions.

NATO Parliamentary Assembly Research Assistant Programme

Through the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Research Assistant Programme, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly usually employs eight paid Research Assistants from NATO nations each year.

In general, four of these start in late January and finish in June. The second group starts in August and finishes in late November or early-December. In addition, the Assembly employs two Research Assistants from Associate Delegate countries

All applications from candidates with the appropriate qualifications are placed on a list for consideration. Their names remain on the list for consideration for about twelve months. Candidates are requested to inform the Assembly by e-mail if they cease to be available to take up a position during that time.
The names of those selected will be published on the web site (<www.nato-pa.int). See below for further details regarding candidates from NATO Member Countries and from Associate Delegation Nations.
