Biography:
Aaron Jensen, a career member of the U.S. Foreign Service, is currently the Davis Fellow at SIPA for the 2011-2012 school year.
Since joining the Foreign Service in July 2000, Mr. Jensen has served as a Political Economic Officer at U.S. Embassy Brussels, the Romania Desk Officer in Washington, D.C., a Political Officer at U.S. Embassy Kabul, an Economic Officer in Madrid, and as a Consular Officer at U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou. He speaks fluent Spanish, good Chinese and Dutch, and basic Italian.
Prior to entering the Foreign Service, Mr. Jensen worked as a Legislative Assistant to State Senator Susan Castillo (D-Eugene) in the Oregon Legislative Assembly, taught English in Taipei, Taiwan, and exported groceries to Asia for United Grocers of Portland, Oregon.
Mr. Jensen received his B.A. from Willamette University, Salem, Oregon in 1996, with a double major in Biology and Politics. He completed an A.M. in International Relations at the University of Chicago in 2000. He earned his high school diploma in 1991 from South Medford High in Medford, Oregon.
Though born in central Illinois, where corn and soybeans grow as far as the eye can see, he considers the valleys of Oregon home. In Oregon, he developed a great appreciation for the natural world and outdoor sports. He enjoys hiking in the mountains and rafting rivers; he tries to surf where there are waves.
