Biography:
Bjorn Dressel, Postdoctoral Fellow in Modern Southeast Asian Studies, '07-'08 Bjorn Dressel is the Weatherhead East Asian Institute's 2007-2008 Postdoctoral Fellow in Modern Southeast Asian Studies. Dr. Dressel received his Ph.D. in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, where he also received his M.A. in the same field. In addition, Dr. Dressel holds a law degree from the University of Trier School of Law in Germany, where he specialized in International Law, European Union Law and Constitutional Law.

In recent years, Dr. Dressel has been as visiting scholar at the Institute of Local Government Studies in Ghana, the National Institute of Development Administration in Thailand, the Institute of Economic Development, Growth & Equity in South Africa, and the Institute for Security and Development Studies in the Philippines. He has also been a consultant for the World Bank and Chemonics International, and a SAIS Professorial Lecturer in International Development.

Author of "Strengthening Governance through Constitutional Reform" in The Governance Brief published by the Asian Development Bank and co-author of "Facing the Perils of Presidentialism" in the Journal of Democracy. Research interests include comparative constitutional reform, political economy and the governance of public finance in emerging markets.
