Biography:
Dr. Irene Finel-Honigman was born in France and received her baccalaureat from the Lycee Francais de New York. She received a B.A. from Barnard College and an M.Phil and Ph.D. from Yale University.
Dr. Finel-Honigman is Adjunct Professor of International Affairs at the Institute for the Study of Europe, Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs. She was Research Scholar at SIPA and Adjunct Professor at Johns Hopkins University MBA program in Washington D.C. She served in the Clinton Administration as Senior Advisor on Finance policy at the United States Department of Commerce. Her responsibilities included the introduction of an initiative on the European Monetary Union and its implications for United States competitiveness. She is author and editor of European Monetary Union Banking Issues: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives (JAI Press, 1999).
Dr. Finel-Honigman has lectured at SIPA; CUNY Graduate School European Union Center; Scripps College EU Center; Hofstra University School of Business; American Graduate School of International Management; Ohio University; the University of Vermont; Vienna Research Institute for European Affairs; New York University; U.S Department of Commerce International Trade Administration; Office of the Comptroller of the Currency; the French American Chamber of Commerce; American Association of Teachers of French; Trade Development Division of the State of New Mexico; and the Yale Club of New York.
Dr. Finel-Honigman was previously Chair of Foreign Languages at the New School University. She was Director of French programs at Credit Lyonnais USA and served as consultant to the French Embassy Cultural Services on Business and Economic French programs in United States universities.
Dr. Finel-Honigman is on the Board of the International Trade and Finance Association, Clarion University of Pennsylvania Business Advisory Council, Societe des Professeurs Francais et Francophones d'Amerique, Association des Professeurs de Langues de Profession. She served on the National Board of Directors of the French American Chamber of Commerce , Advisory Board of the French-American Foundation, the AATF Business French Commission and the Voltaire Society of America.
Dr. Finel-Honigman has published extensively on European financial and corporate issues, international relations and French intellectual and financial history.
