Biography:

James N. Green is Professor of Latin American History at Brown University. He is the author of We Cannot Remain Silent: Opposition to the Brazilian Military Dictatorship in the United States (Duke, 2010), Beyond Carnival: Male Homosexuality in Twentieth-Century Brazil (Chicago, 1999) and numerous articles and edited collections about gender and sexuality, human rights, and social movements in Brazil. He is the past president of the Brazilian Studies Association and the New England Council on Latin American Studies. He is currently working on a biography of Herbert Daniel, a former Brazilian guerrilla fighter, political exile, and AIDS activist. Green has worked on issues related to human rights in Latin America for the last thirty-five years.
