Biography:
Richard H. Clarida has been a member of Columbia's economics department since 1988, first as an assistant professor and later as an associate professor. His work focuses on international monetary theory and policy.
Clarida's scholarly articles include "Monetary Policy Rules in Practice: International Evidence" with M. Gertler in Economic Review (1992), and "Entry, Dumping, and Shakeout," and "Cointegration, Aggregate Consumption, and the Demand for Imports: A Structural Econometric Investigation," both of which appeared in the American Economic Review (1993 and 1994, respectively). His work has also been published in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the International Economic Review, and the World Economy.
Professor Clarida received his BS from the University of Illinois and his MA and PhD from Harvard University. After completing his doctoral studies, Clarida was on the faculty at the Yale School of Organization and Management and later, he was a senior staff economist for the Council of Economic Advisers. Clarida has been the recipient of research grants from the National Science Foundation and the Ford Foundation. He has also served as a consultant to the International Monetary Fund, the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
