Business School Cross-Registration Instructions

Please note that the business school academic calendar differs from SIPA's academic calendar. It is available along with the course schedule online at the business school Web site.

Students will now be able to submit Business School cross-registration applications directly to the Business School. In addition, there will be limited number of business school seats available in specific courses through SIPA. Complete information regarding the processes is below.

 

Applying Directly to the Business School

Students will submit the Business School cross-registration application directly to the Business School.  Applications will be accepted from Tuesday, December 6th - January 26, 2012. Students must meet all pre-requisites for a course to be considered for enrollment in the course.

  The application can be submitted in one of three ways:

    • In Person to the Business School Office of Student Affairs, 113 Uris Hall
    • By Fax to 212-678-0171
    • Or via e-mail (as a scanned attachment)  to Moneil Abu Speitan at mha2134@columbia.edu,

A list of Spring 2012 MBA courses potentially available for cross-registration is available here. Courses highlighted on the list are the most likely to have seat availability for cross-registrants.

The Business School Office of Student Affairs will notify student via e-mail of the decision made on their cross-registration application by January 27th.

Students can also reference the Business School cross-registration webpage  for this information in addition to information regarding pre-requisites and proficiency exam times.

Note:

  • B6302Capital Markets and Investments is a pre-requisite or co-requisite for many upper level finance courses (FINC) at the Business School.  U6023 Capital Markets and Investments taken at SIPA or a combination of the SIPA courses U6045 International Capital Markets and U6022 Economics of Finance will be accepted as a substitute for the Business School's B6302 Capital Markets and Investments prerequisite. Completion of U6022 or U6045 also substitutes for the B6302Capital Markets and Investment co-requisite.

  • Student can enroll in a maximum of 6 credits of business classes per semester, with a limit of 12 credits during their entire course of study at Columbia. 

  • Business School courses cannot be taken on a pass/fail basis or for R credit (audit)

 

Courses Available at SIPA

In addition to the process below SIPA has obtained a limited number of seats in specific courses. This procedure is separate from the Business School cross-registration process described above.

OSA will open registration for these courses on Tuesday, January 17th at 1pm. Students must register in person at the Registration Helpsite located in the Office of Student Affairs, 6th Floor IAB. Students will be registered on a first come first served basis.  The list of courses and number of seats available are available here . Seats may also be available in these courses through the Business School cross-registration process. Students who apply directly to the Business School are also eligible to apply for these courses.
