ENI is an integrated oil and gas company present in 77 countries, producing 1.7 million barrels a day. ENI is currently Italy's largest industrial company with a market capitalization of 87.7 billion euros.
Mr. Scaroni has been Chief Executive Officer of ENI since June 2005 and is a graduate from Columbia University's Business School.

As a leader in Congress on progressive energy and climate policy, Congressman Israel has notably championed the passage of PACE (Property Assess Clean Energy) bond legislation and co-founded the 49-member Sustainable Energy & Environment Caucus in 2009. In his presentation, Israel will discuss these efforts, as well as the current "state of play" regarding Energy and Climage policy in the current 111th US Congress.

Please join Stan Miroshnik, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, for his insights into TNK-BP's development.
Before joining TNK-BP in February, 2010, Stan Miroshnik was an Executive Director and head of the Russia and CIS energy practice at Morgan Stanley. His previous role involved strategic, corporate finance, and M&A advisory for Russia’s major oil and gas companies. In his nine years with Morgan Stanley Mr. Miroshnik had a diverse worldwide experience (New York, Moscow, and London), acquiring broad expertise in various sectors with a focus on energy and natural resources. Within the scope of his activity at Morgan Stanley, Mr. Miroshnik has successfully advised on many of major financing and strategic transactions in the sector. Stan Miroshnik graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with degrees in Molecular Biology and in Business Administration from the Haas School of Business.

Please join us next Thursday for a talk with Dr. Georgina Kessel Martinez, Mexican Secretary of Energy and Columbia alum, on the topic of energy and climate change. Dean John Coatsworth will deliver the opening remarks.
Georgina Kessel has had extensive experience in the public sector, particularly the energy sector. Among other positions, at the start of her professional career, she worked at Petróleos Mexicanos, where she was Director General of Sectoral Economic Analysis of the then Energy, Mining and Parastate Industry Secretariat. In 1994, she was appointed first president of the Energy Regulating Commission. She also served as director of the current Investment Unit of the Finance and Public Credit Ministry, where she was responsible for reviewing the investment projects of the public sector in general and Petróleos Mexicanos, the Federal Electricity Commission and Luz y Fuerza del Centro.
Georgina Kessel obtained a BA in Economics at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and a Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University. In academia, she has been a professor and researcher at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México. Within this sphere, she undertook several research projects linked to the energy sector and other branches of the economy.

Solar Thermal Technology: The Present and the Future
Arnold J. Goldman is the Chairman and Founder of both BrightSource Energy Inc. and BrightSource Industries (Israel), Ltd. (BSII). He holds a B.S. in Engineering from UCLA and a MSEE from the University of Southern California. Mr. Goldman was the founder of Luz International, Ltd. and served as its CEO. Luz International, Ltd. designed, constructed, financed, and operated the world’s nine largest Solar Electric Generating Systems (SEGS) which, at the time, generated 90 percent of the world’s solar electricity. Mr. Goldman also co-founded Electric Fuel Ltd., an electric battery/fuel cell company listed today as Aerotech on the NASDAQ. He was the VP of Engineering and co-founder of Lexitron, the first word processing company in the US. Lexitron was bought by Raytheon in 1977. Mr. Goldman is the recipient of two international awards for his contribution to solar energy development. He holds numerous patents for his inventions and innovations.

Please join Dr. Brenda Schaffer, for a discussion on Caspian energy exports and their implications for US and Eurasian energy security.
Dr. Brenda Shaffer is a faculty member in the School of Political Science and Department of Asian Studies at the University of Haifa. She served in 2008-09 as the President of the Foreign Policy Section of the American Political Science Association (APSA). She is also a visiting professor at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy. Dr. Shaffer previously served as the Research Director of the Caspian Studies Program at Harvard University. Her research focuses on the Caucasus, Central Asia, the link between culture and foreign policy, and energy and politics. Dr. Shaffer takes a special interest in Caspian energy issues, ethnic politics in Iran, and the Nagorno-Karabagh conflict. Her most recent publication is the book Energy Politics (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2009). Dr. Shaffer is also the author of Borders and Brethren: Iran and the Challenge of Azerbaijani Identity (MIT Press, 2002).

Ibrahim Khalid Al-Naimi was appointed President and CEO of Saudi Petroleum International Inc., New York, in March 2008 and has 28 years of experience in various organizations within Saudi Aramco. He began his Aramco career in 1980 right after graduating with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals. In 1999, he became manager of Oil Terminal Operations and Engineering Consulting department. In 2001, Mr. Al-Naimi became the manager of Riyadh Refinery, one of the most complex refineries in the world. In 2004, he became manager of the biggest refinery in Saudi Arabia - Ras Tanura Refinery. With an operating budget of $207 million, Ras Tanura Refinery supplies 40-50% of the kingdom's energy demand.
Mr. Al-Naimi has undertaken many executive leadership programs during his Aramco career, the most recent at Columbia University's Senior Executive Program in 2002.
SPII is a subsidary of Saudi Aramco. Headquartered in New York City, it provides marketing support services to Saudi Aramco in the Western Hemisphere and arranges the scheduling, loading, storage, transportation and delivery of nearly 1 million barelles of crude oil sold by Saudi Aramco to refiners in North America. SPII handles 10-15% of the foreign crude oil imports to the United States.
