Video Online for SIPA Events 2009

Each year SIPA hosts dozens of lectures by leading scholarsand practitioners in the fields of international affairs and public policy, covering topics as diverse as economic development, human rights, climate change, urban policy, and international finance.  Many of these events are recorded and posted to our multimedia website. We invite students, scholars, and the general public to take advantage of these resources.

Ambassador Azmat Hassan Addresses Pakistani Offensive Against the Taliban
In a podcast, former Pakistani Ambassador Azmat Hassan speaks with Rob Garris, Senior Associate Dean at SIPA, about Pakistan's military offensive against the Taliban in May of 2009. Ambassador Hassan holds an appointment as an adjunct professor at SIPA. He previously had a 33-year career in the Pakistani diplomatic service, in which he served as his country's ambassador to Malaysia, Syria and Morocco. Ambassador Hassan addresses the Pakistani government's goals and the nation's refugee crisis.

Haiti—A Future Beyond Peacekeeping?
The United Nations Studies Program (UNSP) hosted a panel discussion focusing on the relationship between peacekeeping and development in Haiti. The event followed the recent mission of a SIPA research group to Haiti, which was facilitated by the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).  Speakers included representatives from the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations and other branches of the UN.
