About Us

History

As well as establishing an intellectual link between SIPA and the UN, the UNSPWG aims at assisting the United Nations Studies Program (UNSP) in the build up of knowledge, which is one of the main purposes of any University. The UNSPWG, thus, assists the UNSP in the organization of a series of lectures and panels each semester through which students can get “live sources” of information and expand upon the knowledge acquired though readings they do in their coursework.

How the UNSPWG Came to Life

Acting UN Studies Program Director, Professor Elisabeth Lindenmayer and the UNSP Program Assistant, Steven Vigil, thought the Studies Program needed a right arm to execute on-going working-projects through a sister organization that would aid in these projects in an academic, professional, and practical manner.

In January 2008, the UNSWG (as it was its original name) held its first elections, gaining the leadership of an Executive Board that would change for ever the relationship between SIPA and the UN.

Two Co-Presidents, one Events Coordinator, one UN System & Alumni Outreach Chair, one Treasurer, and one Communications Chair would make sure the UNSP would be supported. This task was accomplished by allocating a dynamic group of members that would work as a machine to develop projects, events, fundraisers, and an intellectual support platform through the establishment of Task-Forces to support UN related projects.
