The objective of the workshop project was to provide recommendations on the design and rollout of financial inclusion services to advance financial inclusion among underserved population in Lao PDR, with a focus on the gender dimension of the use and impact of financial services. The team assessed and mapped the experience of garment factory workers with digital financial services provided by ACLEDA; assessed and mapped the experience of female small business owners and merchants with digital financial services provided by BCEL; and evaluated and providided recommendations on the experience of BCEL Community Money Express (BCOME) agents. The team's methodology included desk research and literature review on financial inclusion, digital financial services, agent banking; interviews with key experts and stakeholders on financial inclusion in Laos, focus groups with garment factory workers; and interviews with merchants and BCOME agents in Vientiane, Laos.
