The World Bank Doing Business Rankings a tool for measuring and comparing the ease of doing business in 178 countries. The ranking is used by governments and policy-makers to assess the business environment, and to determine the course of reforms for the country in order to ensure sustainable economic growth and attract investment. The Kyrgyz Republic was ranked number 94 out of 178 countries, in 2008. The government of the country is determined to reform and considerably improve its ranking by the year 2009. The objective of the workshop was to evaluate the World Bank‘s Doing Business Rankings. The team assisted the Investment Council in identifying the World Bank Doing Business report‘s methodology, as well as providing an aggregate of alternate indices that measure the business environment in the Kyrgyz Republic. The team examined the World Bank report for its limitations and aimed to provide a collection of multiple sources in order for the stakeholders involved to better understand the current conditions in the business environment of the country.
