Kiron Open Higher Education is a non-profit organization founded in 2015 with a mission to remove the barriers refugees face in accessing higher education. Through an innovative model of blended learning, Kiron offers tailor-made curricula of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) through renowned educational platforms like Coursera and EdX so that refugees can start studying regardless of their asylum status.

Under guidance of Kiron’s international office in Istanbul, the MPA-DP consultant team were tasked with the evaluation and improve design of Kiron’s Certificate Program (CP). The project aimed to analyze the need and set up methods and tools to monitor and produce actionable feedback reports on a regular basis. The on-going evaluation mechanism set up under the framework of the Group Research Study assured the quality of the CP.

The project provided an opportunity to analyze and practice quality assurance, apply monitoring and evaluation techniques as well as directly impact the operation of a humanitarian project. In addition, this cooperation gave the students a chance to refine their skills and knowledge, make a positive contribution and build a network with NYC-based NGOs, foundations and the United Nations. For Kiron, the project facilitated the improvement of the CP’s adaptability regarding country specific needs and evolving student needs.
