MPA in Development Practice

Information for Prospective Students

The twenty-one month MPA degree in Development Practice (MPA-DP) is designed to train aspiring practitioners to understand and manage approaches to sustainable development challenges. This rigorous cross-disciplinary, academic program emphasizes the development of critical knowledge, skills and attributes of an effective professional in developing societies.

Sustainable Development is broadly defined as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” (Brundtland Commission, 1987). Nearly half of the world’s population lives on less than two dollars a day, resulting in unnecessary human suffering caused by debilitating hunger, poor health, environmental degradation and lack of basic infrastructure. These complex challenges can be solved only by connecting knowledge and insights from a range of disciplines, including the natural and health sciences.
