Ana Varela is a PhD candidate in Sustainable Development. Her research interests are in the field of applied microeconomics, with a focus on environmental, development, and urban issues. Broadly, her research analyzes the interaction of socioeconomic and natural systems in the context of climate change and rapid urbanization.

​Ana holds a Master in City Planning from the University of California, Berkeley (where she was a Fulbright scholar), as well as degrees in Environmental Studies from Imperial College London; and in Civil Engineering from the University of A Coruña, Spain. Prior to starting the PhD, she worked as a consultant in sustainable infrastructure and urban planning projects.
