Hyae Ryung (Helen) Kim is a fourth year PhD student in Sustainable Development. Her main research focus is on Energy Policy, Environmental Economics and Climate Change. She is particularly interested in enhancing climate resilience and promoting sustainable energy in developing countries. Her current research studies include examining the role of climate finance in discerning how to effectively achieve sustainable development and estimating climate change cost.

Helen shaped her professional and academic career in order to take an integrated and intellectual look at sustainable environmental and economic development in developing countries in both Africa and Asia. Before joining Columbia, Helen worked with the African Development Bank and PwC Consulting. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering and a Master’s degree in Technology Management, Economics and Policy from Seoul National University. She was a PhD Candidate and Research Fellow in Innovation Economics at Berlin University of Technology in Germany.
