Erika Whillas is an information architect and senior web producer currently pursuing a PhD at the Institute for Sustainable Futures at the University of Technology, Sydney. Erika’s research is focused on processes and technologies that make community engagement in urban green space design easier for urban planners. The overarching goals are to help improve urban governance and make cities more resilient to climate change.

Erika is currently co-designing a map-based survey and workshop tool with the New York Restoration Project to make their community engagement processes easier to run, report and replicate. The Village Vanguard prototype has been developed with the help of Mapseed.org, and is currently being used for four green space redesign projects in NYC.

Erika is also Chief Product Officer of CoClear, a New York based consultancy that specializes in life cycle analysis of consumer products.

Erika has a MPA from SIPA, and an Honors degree in digital media and computer science from UNSW, Sydney.
