Global EMPA Program Will Admit U.S. Cohort

Posted Mar 23 2016

In the spring of 2015, SIPA launched the Global Executive Master in Public Administration (Global EMPA) program, an 18-month option based on a hybrid learning model.

The Global EMPA was based on the successful curriculum of SIPA's on-campus EMPA program, which since 1998 has trained leading mid-career executives from the public, private, military, and nonprofit sectors, allowing them to complete a rigorous Columbia master’s degree while continuing to work.

The program, which to date has admitted two cohorts in partnership with Columbia’s Global Center in Rio de Janeiro, will now offer admission to a select group of senior managers dedicated to public service in the United States and abroad. These senior managers will complete five semesters of coursework highlighted by high-quality online course materials and two intensive summer months at Columbia’s New York campus.

The program’s hybrid model is designed to reflect broader changes in the role of the public sector internationally, extending Columbia’s global presence to address the changing climate of policymaking in an academic setting.

To promote the Global EMPA program, SIPA will host information sessions in Washington on Wednesday, April 20, and in Philadelphia on May 5 and 16. SIPA alumni are encouraged to come to these events and to share this news with others in the community.
