There are two ceremonies connected to your graduation from SIPA; our own graduation ceremony for graduates of the MPA, MIA, PEPM, EMPA, MPA/ESP programs and PhD in Sustainable Development, and the University Commencement where academic year 2014-2015 degrees are officially conferred on graduates from all Columbia schools.
The dates and locations of the ceremonies are as follows:

South Lawn, Morningside Campus
Guest seating begins at 2:30pm on South Lawn. Graduates assemble in Low Library at 2:30 pm.
Graduation Speaker: Caroline Kennedy
Caroline Kennedy, U.S. ambassador to Japan and a 1988 graduate of Columbia Law School, will be the featured speaker at SIPA’s graduation ceremonies in spring 2015.
Kennedy is the first female U.S. Ambassador to Japan. She was nominated by President Obama in July 2013 and assumed office on November 19, 2013.
Kennedy has spent much of her adult life in public service, working on behalf of educational, artistic, and other causes.
She served as vice chair of the board of directors and honorary director of the Fund for Public Schools in New York City, and as chief executive of the Office of Strategic Partnerships of the New York City Department of Education.
Kennedy has served as president and director of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, director of the Legal Defense and Educational Fund of the NAACP, and as a member of the board of trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. She has also served on numerous additional nonprofit organizations, boards, and foundations, and was as a member of the Obama for America Vice Presidential Search Committee in 2008.
You can pick up your tickets at the Office of Student Affairs. Each graduate is allowed five guests for the SIPA Graduation and three guests for the Columbia University Commencement. Students who require invitation letters in order to obtain travel visas for family members should request these letters from the Student Affairs Office by filling out a “Request for Letter form.” In addition, your family members and friends may watch graduation live online at sipa.columbia.edu/live.

The University Registrar will mail diplomas to all SIPA graduates. Diplomas will be mailed to the address submitted on the “Application for Degree” form. Students should expect their diplomas 2-3 weeks after they are certified for their degree.
Students who graduate in October 2014 or February 2015 will be invited to participate in the May 2015 Graduation Ceremony. You will be contacted by the Office of Student Affairs to confirm your participation. October and February graduates should arrange email forwarding to receive graduation communications.
