Frederic de Mariz, PhD is Head of Sustainability at UBS for Latin America. In his capacity as investment banker, he advises corporate clients on best practices in sustainability and develops innovative financial instruments to direct capital for climate transition and other development targets. His team reached the #1 position for labelled bonds in Brazil in 2023 and he participates actively in industry forums. Prior to that, he was head of Financial Institutions coverage in Latin America, having participated in several key IPOs in the Fintech sector. Frederic has 20 years of experience in investment banking in London, New York, Mexico City and São Paulo. Prior to UBS, he worked at JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs. His team has been consistently ranked among the top 3, including Deal of the Year (2023) and #1 in Impact Investing by Euromoney (2017). His areas of expertise include sustainable finance, FinTech and impact investing. Frederic graduated from Columbia University – SIPA (MIA, 2005), La Sorbonne (MA in History, 2003), Sciences Po., Paris, (MPA, 2004), ESSEC, Paris (MBA, 2004). He completed his PhD in Finance at University of Sao Paulo (FEA-USP, 2017) with a thesis on Payments and Financial Inclusion. He has authored or co-authored three books on sustainable finance and published more than 20 academic articles. He is an Adjunct Professor of International and Public Affairs and The Brandmeyer Fellow for Impact and Sustainable Investing at SIPA. He is a member of the Brazilian Banking Association (FEBRABAN), the Sustainability committee of a food company in Brazil and was an advisor to several microfinance institutions in Brazil.
